Our Goals & Philosophies

Compass Relocation is a Golden Rule Company
Our goal is to provide the finest moving services to an ever-increasingly mobile society.  There are many movers in the area that can get goods from point A to point B, but the best movers provide a high quality moving experience.  A quality mover involves keeping promises – promises like being there on time; handling your goods with the same care that their owner uses; delivering on time.

Our main goal is to reduce your stress at a very stressful time.

We treat you and your household goods with respect on a very stressful day.  Our associates are selected with the utmost of care.  The background of each new hire undergoes a thorough check: including Motor Vehicle Violations and Criminal Background Checks. Once hired, each employee undergoes a minimum of 12 hours of classroom training before going out on the street.  They also participate in the Mayflower Quality Labor Training Program where movers and packers each have 200 hours of classroom and on-the-job training to achieve to become certified.  Experienced movers do all training and no “rookie” is ever sent to your home without an experienced partner.

We will not put someone into your home that we won’t put into our own mother’s home!

 Our Moving History

Compass Relocation roots date back to 1914 when the company was originally known Peoples Cartage, Inc.—One the oldest Mayflower Van Line agents

Peoples Cartage, Inc. was a well-known and long-time moving and storage company that started in Massillon, Ohio starting in 1914.  It organized under the Peoples Cartage name in 1933 and has been serving the Massillon and Canton communities as the local representative of Mayflower Van Lines, LLC.  Mayflower is the oldest and best-known moving van lines in the country. Peoples Cartage, Inc. was one of the oldest agencies in the Mayflower system, having joined the national van line network in 1933.

Mr. Joseph B. Schrader founded the company in 1914.  Mr. Schrader was a local blacksmith that began selling farm implements and carriages.  His first moving jobs were done with horse and wagon.  His family sold the business to Ray L. Sibila in 1947.  Mr. Sibila had been in the trucking industry since the early 1930’s.  Under his management, the company grew rapidly and became a major moving and storage company in the area.  He expanded into the Canton market as well.

The company has stayed in the Sibila Family’s hands since 1947.  In 1957, control of the business rested with Ray’s son, Ronald R. Sibila.  The business flourished under his management, as its corporate client base caused the company to become more oriented towards transportation and logistics services.  Mr. Sibila also served on the corporate Board of Directors of Mayflower Van Lines, LLC and is Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Peoples Services, Inc.

In early 2002, the company decided to divest themselves of household goods moving and storage operations in Ohio to concentrate on its core corporate business.  On June 1, these operations were sold to the entity known today as Compass Relocation.  After a rigorous application process, Mayflower Van Lines, LLC recognized the new company and its management by accepting it as a fully authorized agent in August of 2002.

In January of 2007, an acquisition enabled the company to expand its footprint to service all northeastern Ohio.  The acquisition provided expertise in international moving, a military grade warehouse and a robust home delivery business providing last mile services throughout NE Ohio, 5 days every week.

The company moved its moving and storage operation to its current location in Akron Ohio.

Today, Compass Relocation is a full service moving and storage company, and the local Northeastern Ohio agent for Mayflower Van Lines.  Compass helped hundreds of families and business with their local, long distance, and international moving and storage needs.
